Winter Quilt

On a cold winter’s day, surely there can be no better way to while away the hours than snuggled up in a warm bed with a hot cuppa and good book. See how easy it is to warm your bed in a flash with a quick quilt that’s a dream to make.
The ideal way to stay warm in bed in winter is by layering. Ideally bed clothes should be light in order to trap warm air around the body. A comforter or quilt like this is perfect, it’s not too heavy and looks beautiful too.
You will need:
Fantasy Charmeuse Satin, Blush
Fantasy Charmeuse Satin, Apple
Swiss velvet ribbon, Dark Rose 16mm wide
homespun white
Ultra Fresh Wadding
Anchor stranded cotton, Colour 01216
Anchor stranded cotton, Colour 01202
chalk pencil
How to:
1. Measure the width of your bed, cut and join your fabric to suit. For our queen size comforter we used three pieces of satin joined to make up the size. To neaten the seams and add a luxurious touch, over sew with velvet ribbon
2. Cotton is ideal as the backing fabric, cut this as well as two layers of wadding to size. Sew the wadding to the wrong side of the cotton then pin and sew this to the top satin layer with right sides facing. Sew around three sides and remember to leave a gap in the fourth side to turn out.
3. Turn out the right way and sew a border all the way around. Hand sew to close the seam then continue the border to finish.
4.To quilt, use a chalk pencil to mark up the front at regular intervals. Stranded cotton is ideal for tying. Stitch from the front, through to the back and return the needle to the front, leave a loop of thread, stitch back and up again then cut and tie all four pieces of thread together into a double knot. Repeat across the quilt in corresponding colours.
