selecting a new front door

An easy way to begin selecting a new front door is to be guided by the general architecture, period and location of your house.  A quick drive around the local neighbourhood looking at houses of similar styles will give plenty of ideas so be sure to make notes, take photos where appropriate, and ask your suppliers for assistance.

design tips:

A new door colour can add individual style and flair to your home and is easily done in a day with a small can of paint or stain. For a stand-out colour with plenty of style, try high gloss red or black.  For subdued elegance, colour match your door with the existing house trim

Knobs, knockers, hinges, latches, pulls and handles are also referred to as door furniture or hardware.  These should be chosen in a coordinating colour and design scheme and also complement the style of your door.  Popular finishes include brass, chrome, bronze and forged iron

For security, external doors should be solid as opposed to hollow core and be fitted with the correct locks for your needs.  Glass inserts should be security glass and opaque where possible to obscure vision while still allowing light through

Custom door supply or joinery is available if you require materials, detailing and dimensions other than those which are considered ‘standard’.  Check out your local business guide or yellow pages for details
