photo opportunities
Have you ever thought about using a photograph as a starting point for a decorating project? I find it really is a great place to begin, particularly when grouping colours together.
This photo of autumn trees shows how many gorgeous colour ‘clues’ nature has to offer. Each box below the image has been taken from the actual picture and shows that if you study carefully enough, there are so many more colours than first meet the eye.
This living room is a great example of how you can create a room scheme using this method. A neutral coloured sofa and carpet echo the colour and texture of the leaves on the ground while the timber laminate paneling and side table add the woodsy element. Orange is added as a punchy accent for the curtains, wall colour and cushions while the black pot and frames hint at the dark, slender tree trunks.
Whatever the season, I often use nature as inspiration for colour palettes. The results are beautiful rooms that are colour balanced and harmonious.
