These rugs have a natural, chemical-free latex rubber backing helping to strengthen the rug, prolonging its life and giving it added durability.

Jute rugs are a fabulous way to add natural texture and warmth to your home.
Natural rugs like jute and sisal are a staple in Hamptons, coastal and rustic home designs. Often used in living rooms, hallways and kitchens.
Our rugs are hand woven in India by skilled craftsmen and women. We have three styles available. Herringbone, Boucle and Panama. These three styles are available in multiple sizes including large jute rugs, hall runners and even doormats.

We have samples of the three jute rug styles available to see in store and a small number of runners and mats available for take home purchase.
If the rug you need isn’t held in stock you can place the order with us in store or online. It can either be delivered to your home or to our store for you to collect at a time that suits you. 

What is Jute?

Jute is a natural plant fibre often grown in tropical lowland areas of countries like India and Bangladesh. Jute is the second most grown fibre in the world, second only to cotton. Jute fibres are easy to manipulate offering rug makers a wide range of construction options. 

Are jute rugs eco-friendly?

If you’re looking for a natural rug that is eco-friendly jute rugs the way to go. Jute is one of the most eco-friendly floor covering options on the market. As jute is biodegradable and needs almost no fertiliser or pesticides when produced it is one of the most eco-friendly materials your rug could be made from.
Our jute rugs are also backed with a natural latex rubber so your rug contains no synthetic fibres whatsoever. 

Where to use a jute rug.

Thanks to their simplicity jute and sisal rugs are suitable for almost any room of the home. A popular choice for both low and high-traffic areas.
Bedroom
These natural rugs can be placed under the bed or you might choose to have a runner down side or across the front of your bed. They can also be used in the bedroom to section off a sitting area of the room with a small sofa and coffee table.
Kitchen
Jute rugs are a popular choice for kitchens. Most people will opt for a runner size rug for this area of the home as they work so well with galley kitchens or between your kitchen bench and kitchen island.
Living Room
Large jute and sisal rugs can often be seen in the living rooms of Hamptons style homes. These rugs act as an anchor and bring the whole room together. Connecting individual items of furniture and creating a complete space.
Hallway
Jute hall runners are a fabulous way to add some texture and interest to an often underappreciated area of the home. Our jute runners are available in several sizes to suit your space. You don’t need to worry about your runner sliding around as they all come with a natural latex backing to stop them from moving underfoot.
Entryways
The smallest of our jute rugs is 60x80cm. These mats are ideal as doormats for use inside the front or back door.
Runner size rugs are also a great option for entryways, particularly those leading into hallways and other thorough fairs.
Laundry
While jute runners can look lovely in a laundry room it is important to remember they do not do well in humid areas. Only use a jute runner in your laundry room if it is a well-ventilated space. If you feel the room can get damp on occasion we would recommend trying one of our Vinyl Floor Mats rather than a jute rug. 

Shedding

It’s true, jute rugs will shed but this shouldn’t put you off.
As jute is a natural fibre it will shed tiny little fibres as time goes on. This may look like dust or dirt. Regular vacuuming on both sides of the rug is enough to keep this at bay and keep your rug looking good. 

Jute rug backing

Our jute rugs all have a natural rubber backing.
This natural latex helps to stop the rug from moving around on your hardwood or tiled floors. It also increases the strength of the rug and prevents it from becoming misshapen over time. 

How to care for a jute rug

- Jute rugs do tend to fade and discolour from direct exposure to sunlight so it’s always - best to rotate your rug regularly to ensure any colour changes happen evenly.
- Avoid using your jute rug outdoors or in humid areas of the house like bathrooms.
- Vacuum your rug regularly.
- Dab stains as soon as possible using a colourless, dry towel.
- Professional cleaning is recommended for jute rugs.

Vacuuming a jute rug
Vacuuming your jute rug regularly will help to remove dirt, debris and excess fibres. This will also help maintain the colour and softness of your jute rug.
Keep your vacuum on a low setting and avoid using the brush beater head to prevent any damage to the jute fibres. 

How to clean spills from a jute rug
We advise against over-wetting or washing your jute rug where possible. If staining occurs, dab the stain as soon as possible using a clean, colourless, dry towel to remove excess moisture. Do not rub the stain. If needed use a small amount of warm water, mild detergent and a sponge. Allow the rug to air dry thoroughly.
Jute rugs don’t hold up well to scrubbing. As jute is prone to fraying and tearing, regular cleaning can reduce the life of your rug.

If you’re looking to have your rug professionally cleaned it’s often a good idea to speak with the company to make sure they have experience with jute or sisal rugs before hiring them. 

Jute rugs with pets
While our furry friends might love the natural fibres in your new rug they can be difficult to clean if your pet were to have a little accident. Just like water, pet mess can cause staining and discolouration. If an accident does occur be sure to clean it up as soon as possible.
If dabbing isn’t working sprinkle some bicarb soda over the stain and let it soak in. The bicarb should soak up the moisture and prevent further discolouration.
